About

Residents attending City Council Meeting to speak at City Hall. As the frequency of these flights began to escalate, it has become unbearable. The excessive noise and disruption from over hundreds of flights a day at low altitudes have significantly diminished our quality of life. Residents’ health is being compromised.

How it all started

For nearly a century, we have peacefully coexisted with Long Beach Airport, but in recent years things completely changed, our tranquility has been shattered by a relentless influx of small general aviation planes flying over our homes.

SANeR Group Established…

SANeR is now a 501 C organization and a community group based in Long Beach, California, dedicated to addressing the issues caused by the significant increase in general aviation small planes, primarily from flight schools, at Long Beach Airport. With between 27,000-35,000 operations per month these planes are flying over our historical homes seven days a week. Many of us can no longer work from home, suffer from sleep deprivation, and are unable to enjoy the simple pleasures of opening windows or relaxing in our own backyards. Our quality of life and health have been severely impacted, especially considering that many of our homes are historically significant and subject to strict rules from the historical preservation committee. Despite months of attempting to collaborate with the city of Long Beach, the airport’s owner, we have not reached a resolution. They claim their hands are tied due to applying for and accepting over $350 million in federal grant assurances. However, we refuse to accept this status quo. We are exploring legal avenues and fundraising to seek the advice of legal counsel. We are determined to protect our community and our homes from being disrupted and displaced by the airport’s operations.
As we educate ourselves, researching and reading, we find there are many allied communities across the U.S. that are facing these same issues. We aim to learn from them as well as share strategies and resources as we fight to preserve peaceful living in our neighborhoods once again.
